The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History has put together The Price of Freedom: Americans at War to walk the visitor through each conflict the country has faced, beginning with the War of Independence in 1775. Focusing on how the wars influenced American history and society, the exhibition allows online visitors to find a specific artifact in the Collection Search, or browse the different wars through the Timeline feature.
Click on a particular war and you can watch videos, read up on the history and look through the separate collections, which include weaponry, medals, vehicles and more. The website is easy to use with its interactive slideshow format. Learning Resources include a “Who Am I” game, a self-guide to the exhibition, as well as teaching materials.
