Silent Harvest -- A Look at America's Breadbasket
Silent Harvest, from the California Museum of Photography, presents photos and essays exploring life in America's breadbasket. (Put "silent harvest" in search box.)
"The silence of these photographs comes from their essential serenity of place and image: a serenity that has behind it a compelling historical question," wrote Kevin Starr, the state librarian and a noted historian. "Can the family farm survive in our contemporary agricultural economy?"
The exhibit includes moving black and white photos as well as a collection of essays with titles like "A Farm Woman's Hands" and "Baseball and Farming."
